in"A Little Bit of Peace" Coming to the U.S. Mainland 2010

"It may seem sometimes as if a culture of peace does not stand a chance against the culture of war, the culture of violence and the cultures of impunity and intolerance. Peace may indeed be a complex challenge, dependent on action in many fields and even a bit of luck from time to time. It may be a painfully slow process, and fragile and imperfect when it is achieved. But peace is in our hands. We can do it." -- Kofi Annan (2001 Nobel Peace Prize winner)

Geothermal Peace at Yellowstone

Posted by jdleggett in Untagged

It is an AMAZING, peaceful place ... Yellowstone National Park; America's first "giant peace space," set aside in 1872 by our nation to preserve a unique eco-system of wildlife, vegetation and volcanic activity, including more than half of the world's geothermal structures (stuff like big geysers and hot springs). You can see an example above of what I mean in Patsy's photo of Grand Prismatic Springs.

By peace space, I mean a place designated as space where a sort of natural harmony can unfold -- even if that means half-burned trees, hot lava air blowing in the air and bisons and people trying to negotiate roadways.

Jerry Leggett's Peace Bubble journey began nearly three years ago with a performance in Cleveland, Ohio and was inspired by a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. -- "If you want something to happen in your life, make space for it." Jerry acquired a retro, tear-drop style trailer that was christened the "Peace Bubble" a few weeks later in Phoenix, Arizona. His plan was to make stops at noon each day of 2007 and "sing out for peace" in a way that provided a safe space for people across the spectrum of life to dialogue about what makes for a more peaceful world.

Planting Peace in Carlsbad, California

We pulled off by the Carlsbad Sea Wall this morning about 6:30 am. Those who know me know that the Carlsbad Sea Wall is my favorite place in the entire universe. It is my "peace space" -- a place where I to to experience beauty, serenity and a myriad of memories of days gone by.

Ever seen a turtle with a mustache?

Read more below!

"We met thousands of people on our Peace Bubble journey who inspired us to believe that "peace is possible, if we want it! Look for some of their (your) faces in the "PEACE SIGNERS ACROSS AMERICA GALLERY."

Patsy Ferrell, Photographer, Hilo, Hawaii

Cincinnati school children wait in line to take a tour of the famous "Peace Bubble" after a live music performance featuring peace tunes from the 60's.

"There was this Buddhist monk who once said that trying to find peace is like trying to find a turtle with a mustache. You won’t be able to find it! But when your heart is ready, peace will come looking for you.

We are hoping that a little bit of peace will find you as you browse through our image gallery."

Jerry Leggett, Visual Artist-Performer, Hilo, Hawaii

Sending you a little bit of peace from Hawaii Island! If you are in Hilo, be sure to visit our mobile gallery at the local Farmer's Market on Wednesday and Saturday. Oh, yes, and don't forget to stop by the Kalapana Lava Viewing Site and make a little donation to help keep it open. Mahalo!
