"The songs and music of Jerry Leggett can brush away the petty differences between us and help unearth the goodness embodied in our nature." Rocky Velgos
ABOUT JERRY LEGGETT
Jerry Leggett has been performing his original tunes in a variety of venues for three decades.
Known by some audiences across the U.S. as the Sea Wall Singer, Jerry traveled nearly 100,000 miles on his two-year, 240-stop, Peace Bubble mission. His Peace Bubble Cafe, a mobil, multimedia entertainment venue, was featured in 150 news stories and his youtube.com "What does peace look like to you?" video interviews have seen more than a quarter of a million views.
Leggett's acoustic musical roots stretch back to the late 1960's when he bought a $13 folk guitar and learned his first Bob Dylan song. Through the years he has maintained that essential quality of a guitar strumming, street-singing balladeer even as his musical presentation has become a more eclectic mix of pulsating rock and jazz formats.
Jerry's live performances and recordings feature many of his signature, soul-stirring original ballads such as "Born In A Carlsbad Canyon" and "Sophia's Here." His recordings have sold more than 100,000 copies worldwide on his Better World Music label. They include: "Songs to End The Silent War," (1993); "Heart to Heart, Hand to Hand," (1995); "The Way of Peace," (2004) and "Peace Signs" (2007).
Leggett has consistently supported efforts to link entertainment with raising funds and awareness for a more just and healthy planet.
Through the years he has combined his art with work as a grassroots community hunger organizer in Iowa and Southern California, a director of a downtown meal program for at-risk-downtown residents in Fairbanks, Alaska, and a creative consultant for an international relief and development organization in Washington, D.C.. His knack as a storyteller is informed by his many travels in diverse settings.
In 2007-2008, Jerry volunteered as an Artist in Residence at the Dayton International Peace Museum in Dayton, Ohio. He collaborated with the museum in the MyPeaceSpace™ Initiative and traveled nationally with his Peace Bubble Cafe to promote the founding of peace museums across America.
One of Jerry's greatest musical moments was a performance with the legendary Pete Seeger."Says Leggett, "in my playing and my everyday actions I hope to reflect the spirit of Pete who calls us to build a world where no one is ostracized and everyone has something to share."
Jerry currently resides in Waikola Village, Hawaii (the "Big Island") with his spouse, Patsy Ferrell, a poet, photographer and a readjustment counselor working with returning veterans at the Kona Vet Center.
Leggett will be traveling to the U.S. mainland in 2010 for several dozen performances that will include a multimedia presentation of his recent (2007-2008) U.S. peace tour.
